Quest Content
Quest Giver: Dwarven Union
Reward: 500gp upfront, 500gp upon completion
Small quakes have been registered near Malachite and Chrysalis City. Further investigation reveals they resemble howls coming from deep below. The dwarven miners’ work in Malachite has been put to a halt as a precaution.
The Dwarven Union seeks brave explorers willing to venture toward the source of these disturbances and determine what lies in the depths. The job is dangerous—hence the substantial payment—and requires both combat prowess and keen investigative skills.
Hooks:
- Characters interested in exploration and discovery
- Those in need of significant funds
- Dwarven characters or those with connections to the Dwarves Union
- Anyone curious about the tunnel systems beneath Terra
Starting Point:
Dwarven Union office in the Old District. Characters are assigned to exploration group 710 and given a sector to investigate in the eastern tunnels.
DM-Notes:
The tunnel environment passes through several distinct layers: Mushroom Forest (myoconid colonies that can serve as rest points, flumphs, giant lizards), Crystal Caverns (purple crystals, originium most common here, remnants of old civilization), and eventually the Buried City sealed beneath crystal and old magma.
Creatures likely encountered: grey oozes and shadows in the ruins, earth elementals resting in the old city, deactivated warforged prototypes (remnants of the old civilization), Dragon Swans near Sarcophagus facilities.
The source of the “howls” and tremors is linked to activity near or within one of the Sarcophagus facilities. Facility 28 is deepest (2000ft, ruins only), while Facility 31 is 800ft beneath Rhine Lab — the energy units there are still outputting power despite a malfunction that killed the preserved occupants.
A handprint in the Sarcophagus room matches Schinsharo’s hand — an important discovery for that character’s arc.
Saria the Vouivre wants to see the party’s map of the tunnels to confirm its quality — a natural handoff point that connects this quest to the Rhine Lab storyline. The party levels up after successfully reporting back.
