Wanderwood is the outer district where Wien stops being a city and starts being forest — a scattering of homes, waystations, and hunting lodges pressed up against the treeline south of Lindenhall, with a worn path east down to the shore. The name suits it: this is where Wien’s wandering streak, the same restlessness that fills its songs about lonely roads and vanished travelers, actually lives out its days. Hunters, foragers, and those who’d rather sleep under trees than under a noble’s roof make their homes here.
It’s also the last stop for anyone heading into the boreal forest proper, or down to the coast by the forest path rather than through Ufermark’s harbor streets. Wanderwood doesn’t get much traffic from the rest of the city — most of its business is with the wild, not with Wien.
Character: Wild, transient, quietly melancholic
Notable features:
- Hunting lodges and waystations serving those heading into the forest or down to the shore
- Foragers’ trails and small woodcutting camps along the treeline
- A scattering of wayside shrines and cairns rather than any single formal temple
- The forest path east to the shore, an alternative route to Ufermark’s harbor roads
Worship: Loose and itinerant, much like the district’s population. No single temple or dominant patron — just scattered wayside shrines, left by whoever passed through and felt moved to leave one. Travelers heading into the forest are as likely to murmur a request to the woods themselves as to any named god.
Population Character: Hunters, foragers, woodcutters, and a steady trickle of wandering performers and travelers passing through on their way somewhere else. Few people are born in Wanderwood; more arrive, stay a while, and move on — or stay much longer than they meant to.
Notes
- No specific worship pattern, the”wandering” theme is baked into the district’s name and Wien’s broader wanderer/Romantic motifs rather than assigning a fixed patron.
