A union workforce of dwarven artisans — proud, exacting, and increasingly protective of their trade as outsiders start asking hard questions about Malachite’s forges.
Overview
The Dwarves Union is a workforce and artisan guild headquartered in Town Malachite, representing craftspeople across trades. It started out as a purely dwarven organisation but has opened its ranks to other races who can prove their worth and craft — its most skilled members regularly collaborate with other factions on major projects. The Union maintains an artisan forum where requests and invoices for custom work can be placed.
Current Speaker: Denken Genau
Location: Dwarven Union office, Old District, Town Malachite.
Public Projects: Tunnel investigation and exploration work (see Echoes from the Deep Dark, below); artisan commissions through the Union’s forum.
Branches
Not documented
Projects
- Echoes from the Deep Dark — the Union’s highest-profile current undertaking. Small quakes near Malachite and Chrysalis City, resembling howls from deep below, halted dwarven mining work as a precaution. The Union is paying handsomely (500gp upfront, 500gp on completion) for explorers willing to investigate the source. Parties are organised into numbered exploration groups (e.g. “Group 710”) and assigned sectors of the eastern tunnels.
Services
- Artisan forum — members and clients may post invoices or requests for custom artisan work.
Reputation
The Dwarves Union takes any criticism of Malachite Forges personally, treating it as an attack on dwarven craftsmanship and tradition. This protectiveness has only sharpened as public concern over the crystalline disease grows and outside factions start scrutinising Malachite’s industrial practices.
Background
Not extensively documented in the vault beyond its dwarven origins and gradual opening to other races. Left as an expansion hook.
Notes
- Dwargon Malachite, Speaker of Malachite Forges, is also listed as affiliated with the Dwarves Union
- “Denken Genau” as Speaker appears only in the oldest dungeonsanddragons notes and a couple of derived character-roster tables
