Session 0 and Character Creation

A bit about me as DM

Hi, my name is Konrad and i have been a Dungeon Master (DM) for ~6 years now. I wanted to play god using the minimum amount of effort and ended up putting together a whole world and a wiki. My DMing philosophy is “if you describe the action and it makes sense (magic is allowed), i’ll allow it” (Even if i know it may backfire against my plans).

I enjoy exploration sessions the most, but at this time i have put together a questline that unifies most of my previous plotlines that i wish to play through. If you have suggestions of things in my world to explore i am all ears.

What kind of world Terra is

Terra is a volcanic island dominated by the mountain Titania, its slopes cloaked in boreal forest and geothermal hotspots. Humans, elves, and goliaths live on the surface; dwarves and drow largely below it, in the layered Underdark. To the far east, past Titania, lies Wien - a city of tieflings, gnomes, and art. The island’s economy and its dangers both trace back to Originium, a black crystal that transformed Terra’s industry twenty years ago and carries the slow affliction of Oripathy. Four factions - Chrysalis Labs, Dragon Logistics, Malachite Forges, and the Dwarves Union - compete for influence and resources.

Tone: mystery, high fantasy. Expect strange lands, dangerous creatures, and gods who take a direct interest in mortal affairs - alongside industrial-era intrigue (forges, logistics, labs) layered over classic fantasy.

Progression

Milestone-based progression - the focus isn’t on leveling up frequently, but on acquiring items, contacts, and boons that meaningfully grow your character between milestones.

Game Rules & Table Mechanics

We use dungeons and dragons 5th Edition (5e 2024 where possible, 2014 allowed where 2024 hasn’t updated something), stat generation method (point buy / standard array / rolled), house rules, homebrew approval process. I favour rule of cool over rules as written.

Party Composition

Try to plan around the party, unbalanced parties are allowed but remember the dices ultimately decide your fates.

Player Etiquette & Boundaries

off-limit topics will be discussed, I won’t describe sensitive content unless i have an okay from the whole table.

Meta gaming, avoid it as much as possible, like using player knowledge as if it were character knowledge. A little bit of meta gaming should be fine, like tactical meta gaming, you are allowed to plan together or ask each other how e.g “casting fireball in close combat” would work out for you and the party.

General table conduct

As the DM I will of my best ability be fair to all of you, as in i let the dice decide most of your outcomes. Should it feel unfair please speak up or talk to me 1 on 1. The most important thing is that we have fun. Treat everyone with respect, fellow players, the DM and our time.

Scheduling & Logistics

Each session will be about 3 Hours with 10-15 minute breaks in between hours. The game is accessed and played through here: foundry.konradsboks.no

Character Creation Checklist

Here is a checklist to follow if you decide to create a new character or adapt your character.

  • Character starts at level 5.
  • Choose features from any official WotC-published book; homebrew requires DM approval first. You may flavour features as you like.
  • Starting gold: 500gp + 1d10 × 25gp, plus normal starting equipment.
  • You may pick a faction to affiliate with or not: Chrysalis Labs, Dragon Logistics, Malachite Forges, and the Dwarves Union
  • Species: common ones on Terra are Drow, Dwarves, Elves, Goblins, Goliaths, Humans, Tieflings - ask the DM first for anything else.
  • Optional: pick a patron deity if your character is religious (Lolth, Boldrei, Asmodeus, Thrym, Tyr, Hephaestus, Tymora, Valefor).
  • Check out my wiki at wiki.konradsboks.no - its for me and my players to use.
  • Decide whether your character has prior relationships with the rest of the party, and how.
  • Write a short surface-level description of your character.
  • Send character sheet + token/image at least a day before session 1

I will update this page if i think of anything more to write here. Otherwise, see you at the player table.
