Overview
Chrysalis Labs is the foremost technology and medical research organisation on Terra, occupying its own district at the heart of Chrysalis City. Its researchers stand at the frontier of investigating Originium, the black, energy-dense crystal whose discovery has reshaped Terra’s industry, medicine, and politics over the past two decades. Where Rhine Lab — founded by two of its own former researchers — pursues originium science without institutional restraint, Chrysalis Labs prefers to present itself as careful, regulated, and accountable. In practice, its caution is selective: institutional progress is often weighed against individual cost, and the Labs has a documented history of classifying inconvenient findings as proprietary data.
The institution’s reach extends well beyond the laboratory. It founded and funds Chrysalis University, trains the city’s medical researchers and engineers, and — through its current Speaker — has held the office of City Mayor for six years, a concentration of scientific and political power that has become the central issue of the upcoming mayoral election.

Background
Chrysalis Labs grew into Terra’s leading scientific institution on the strength of originium research, medicine, and its founding role in Chrysalis University. Fifteen years ago, two of its own graduates — Kristen Wright and Saria the Vouivre — split off to found Rhine Lab, seeking to pursue originium research without the Labs’ institutional oversight. The split remains a sore subject within Labs leadership, not least because Rhine Lab has since matched and in places exceeded its rival’s results, while drawing far more open criticism for its methods.
